With the integration of Barco’s latest projection technology "HDR by Barco" into the Theater Management System (TMS), OneCinema once again expands the technical compatibility of its system, enabling cinema operators to seamlessly incorporate the latest laser projection into their sound and vision workflows.

Dual-projection workflows can be complex across the industry, and OneCinema’s TMS helps simplify this process. In dual-projection systems, two projectors operate with their own media block. For a show to play correctly, content, playlists, and schedules must always be delivered to the appropriate server - depending on the manufacturer, sometimes only to the primary server, sometimes to the secondary, or to both.

The OneCinema TMS is capable of flexibly controlling which information is transmitted to which server. This foundation enabled a rapid implementation of the requirements for “HDR by Barco”. The integration of Barco’s technology into the OneCinema TMS was carried out via the communication interfaces provided by Barco, ensuring reliable data exchange. As a result, OneCinema customers benefit from the TMS’s high level of automation and reliability from day one, even when adopting newly introduced premium solutions.

An example of a successful implementation is Cineplex Münster, under the management of Ansgar and Anselm Esch. The premium concept “Ultimate.” is being continued at this location, and in the largest auditorium with a screen area of approximately 220 m², the new “HDR by Barco” solution has been deployed for the first time in October 2025. Since this introduction, the OneCinema TMS allows for central control of the two projectors and ensures fully synchronized playlists.

"Our guests expect the best possible cinema experience in the Ultimate. halls, so it was important for us to be among the first movers and integrate Barco HDR. The exceptional added value is not only created by the projectors, but above all by the content graded specifically for HDR – because 'Content is King'," explains
Anselm Esch.

In daily cinema operations, the value of integrating "HDR by Barco" into the OneCinema TMS becomes clear. "Integration is essential for us, especially when working with dual projection systems. The automated distribution and monitoring of content on the synchronously playing servers are crucial for operational reliability. With OneCinema, we have a partner that works closely with the manufacturers, making the immediate integration of the new system possible. No one wants to go back to manual playlists – not even for a few days," Esch continued.

The integration of Barco's HDR technology demonstrates how closely the system and projection levels work together in the OneCinema ecosystem to make cinema operations more efficient and future-proof.

"It is an excellent example of the level of reliability, time savings, and operational security that can be achieved when projection and TMS are perfectly aligned. We are proud to integrate next-generation technological advancements into everyday cinema operations and to make the preparation of screenings noticeably easier."

With the latest update to its Theatre Management System (TMS), OneCinema introduces a major technological enhancement that gives cinema operators greater flexibility: automated and fully customizable intermissions for IMAX screenings. This new capability complements existing features such as automatic KDM handling, creation and automation of playlists, scheduled shows, and the automatic distribution and removal of content.

Until now, IMAX screen servers offered only limited options for running screenings with intermissions. “With the new IMAX API, we can now achieve the same level of automation on IMAX screen servers that that customers already enjoy with other server types,”explains Ingo Neumann, Technical Support at OneCinema. “Our TMS controls the entire intermission process - from adjusting auditorium lighting to playing background music, or advertisements, announcements, and the continuation of the film - everything runs automatically, without the need for any manual input.”

The breakthrough lies in the seamless integration of the new IMAX API into OneCinema’s TMS. For cinemas with IMAX auditoriums, this marks another significant step toward complete automation. Intermissions can now be centrally scheduled and rule-based, filled with content, and played in varying lengths or versions - adapted to the time of day and show type.

Technically, the new functionality is based on the updated IMAX API, which for the first time provides commands for dynamic intermission sequences. OneCinema has implemented these new API functions in its TMS, enabling fully automated intermission management in IMAX operations. The intermission feature is currently available for the IMAX server types ICLPS, XT, IDS, and ILPS.

This feature is particularly valuable for long-running blockbusters such as Avatar, as well as for cinemas in Switzerland and the Benelux countries, where intermissions traditionally form part of the show experience.

The solution significantly reduces on-site operational workload and ensures a stable, smooth workflow for all IMAX screenings. OneCinema remains committed to making new technical developments available in its TMS quickly and reliably.

EIKONA Cinema Solutions GmbH is now called OneCinema GmbH. With its strategic rebranding, the software company specializing in the cinema industry is not only underlining its commitment to further expanding its global presence.

The central USP of the product portfolio is also firmly anchored in the new brand identity: "Our cloud systems already enable cinema operators and cinema chains to monitor and manage their cinemas efficiently – from a singular, centralized platform, minimizing operational complexities. In other words: We turn 100 cinemas into one. This embodies our rebranding as OneCinema," explains Joachim Schmitt, retaining his role as managing owner post the corporate set-up.

Software innovation meets international expansion

Since its foundation in 2012, OneCinema has quickly become the leading provider in the DACH market, championing the theater management system. The continuously evolving product range now also includes a digital signage system, an automation module for cinema hardware and building technology, and a cloud system for the centralized operation of cinema chains.

The reinforced focus on international markets aligns with the company’s recent milestones, as OneCinema sales manager Andreas Stier explains. "After we were able to gain significant market share in other European countries in the last two years, the further expansion of our international business is only a logical consequence of this success."

The high-performance software solutions are always geared directly to the diverse market and customer needs, as Managing Director Joachim Schmitt explains further: "Our focus is always on cinema operators and their individual requirements and needs. This close exchange enables us to support them with innovative products at the right time."

Rebranding: new brand name and new corporate design

Concurrent with the expansion into global markets, a comprehensive modernization of the brand image unfolds – from the new corporate design to the meaningful brand name to the website relaunch in the upcoming year. In the context of the updated branding, OneCinema seeks to transparently communicate its international positioning, with the logo and website designs reflecting the company's enduring commitment to technological progress.

"Together with our customers and partners, we strive to reduce the complexity of technical cinema management as much as we can. So that cinema operators are able to concentrate on what truly matters to them – delivering their visitors an unforgettable cinematic experience. True to our motto: Focus on Entertainment. That's what OneCinema makes possible," concludes Managing Director Joachim Schmitt.
